National security analyst and author David Sanger says President Donald Trump is failing on many fronts while the Jeffrey Epstein scandal devours all.

CNN "Situation Room" host Wolf Blitzer said hope for a ceasefire in Gaza and the return of hostages is "dimming big time" as U.S. and Israeli negotiators walk away from peace talks with Hamas. Trump appeared to be dismissing all hope of a peaceful outcome in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict and placing blame on Hamas.

"They pulled out in terms of negotiating. It was too bad," Trump told reporters while on his way to Scotland. "Hamas didn't really want to make a deal. I think they want to die."

But Blitzer reported a senior Hamas official claiming "a breakthrough in the ceasefire talks was actually close."

Sanger said Trump appeared ignorant of the negotiations.

"We're getting wildly different accounts of where this is," Sanger said. “The Israeli prime minister's office told reporters a different story, saying.… discussions were going on and they did not view this as a breakdown. And then Hamas itself.… said that they had basically agreed to most Israeli proposals. So.… it looks like it's the U.S. that is saying they are wildly far apart."

Sanger continued, arguing that, "the Epstein case.… is taking up all the oxygen in Washington, but meanwhile, the two biggest negotiations that President Trump says he had underway to save lives do appear to be floundering."

The analyst cited "horrific images of starvation" among Palestinian children in Gaza, but also referenced the continuing Ukraine-Russia War. Sanger pointed out that Friday morning, Trump suggested Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian leader Vladimir Putin "would get together in two to three months."

“Well, do you remember, Wolf, when [Trump] said the Russians had to come around within weeks or there would be significant consequences? That was a few months ago. So, this is one that he keeps pushing down the road as well."
