The Republican Accountability Project (RAP) — a group of Republicans opposed to former President Donald Trump — just launched a new ad campaign in five battleground states that will run during popular Christmas programming.

According to HuffPost, RAP is running the ad on the Hallmark Channel and during TBS' marathon of the movie A Christmas Story, and on CNN and MSNBC through next week. The ad is targeted at viewers in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, all of which played decisive roles in determining the winners of the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections.

"[S]orry to ruin your Christmas but he’s running again," a narrator says in the ad, calling the former president a "wannabe dictator" akin to other authoritarian leaders like Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban, Italy's WWII-era fascist president Benito Mussolini, Chilean dictator Agosto Pinochet and former Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez.

POLL: Should Trump be allowed to hold office again?

"Trump said he would terminate the Constitution so he could be president again," the narrator's voice says, while a Truth Social post from Trump is shown in which he called for the "termination" of articles of the US Constitution in response to losing the 2020 election.

The ad also warns of Trump's stated plans to overhaul the federal civil service and replace tens of thousands of government employees with "loyalists" committed to carrying out far-right political goals. This agenda is spelled out in Project 2025, which is a presidential transition plan proposed by the far-right Heritage Foundation in which Trump — or any Republican — would use an executive order dubbed "Schedule F" to eliminate career protections for federal workers and put political allies in policy-making positions throughout multiple federal agencies.

"The alarm is going off, everyone needs to wake up," the narrator says in the ad. "We have a choice between protecting our democracy or letting Trump destroy it."
