CNN ‘News Night’ Host Abby Phillip turned more than a year of MAGA criticism back on political commentator Scott Jennings when she accused him of running defense for President Donald Trump.

Phillip played footage of Trump denying having appointed Fed chair Jerome Powell in his first term: “He's a terrible fed chair,” Trump told reporters. “I was surprised he was appointed. I was surprised, frankly, that [former President Joe] Biden put him in and extended him, but they did.”

“It was actually trump who appointed Jerome Powell in 2017, not Biden,” corrected Phillip, who then played footage of Trump claiming to have discussed his uncle teaching notorious Unabomber Ted Kaczynski at MIT.

“There's a major flaw in that little story,” said Phillip after the footage. "Ted Kaczynski went to Harvard and … not MIT. … Nice try. l think his uncle died like 10 years before the Unabomber was even a thing, so this whole thing is a little bizarre.”

Phillip then turned to Jennings: “and if this were Joe Biden, I think you would be screaming from the rooftops right now.”

“Well, Joe Biden said his uncle was eaten by cannibals, so I guess we'll have to compare uncle stories,” Jennings said, attempting to deflect with a claim Biden once made while speaking at a WWII memorial.

“Absolutely. … Why is that more concerning than what has happened this week?” demanded Phillip. “He didn't even remember appointing his own fed chair.”

“This president has a doctor who is issuing very transparent letters about this president's health," Jennings argued. "The former president has a doctor who's taking the Fifth Amendment before Congress right now, because he doesn't want to answer questions about it. … I've been around [Trump]. I have detected nothing but a man doing six meetings at a time.”

"You sound, like Joe Biden's aides who also said, ‘I've been around him and the president’s [fine],'" Phillip argued.

“I’m not [the one] taking the Fifth Amendment,” Jennings countered.

“I'm just saying that by your own metric, if this were Joe Biden—" Phillip said.

“He’s working 20 hours a day,” argued Jennings.

“Twenty hours a day?” challenged Democrat commentator Touré.

“… Are you saying Donald Trump is not visible as president and it's anywhere comparable to Biden's hiding for four years?” Jennings shot back.

“I'm just asking why he didn't remember that he appointed the fed chair in 2017 and stood in the rose garden with him and appointed him,” Phillip repeated. “Why didn't he remember that?”

Conservative podcaster Ben Ferguson, who also sat in on the discussion, insisted Trump’s mental mishaps were “the most fun nothingburger I’ve seen in a while.”
