A Thursday vote in the House of Representatives grew heated after a Democratic congressman got into a verbal altercation with one of his Republican colleagues.

Punchbowl News co-founder Jake Sherman tweeted that a "massive shouting fight" broke out on the House floor when Rep. John Mannion (D-N.Y.) screamed at Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) to "get off the Democratic side of the floor." The confrontation took place while the House was voting on a $9.4 billion rescissions package (in which funds previously appropriated by Congress are clawed back) that narrowly passed by a 214-212 margin.

"His screaming was so loud that it hushed the entire chamber," Sherman wrote in a follow-up post.

Several congressional reporters were able to pick up snippets of what Mannion said to Lawler. Syracuse University student reporter Luke Radel quoted Mannion as saying: "F---ing get over there and get some f---ing balls!" According to NOTUS Capitol Hill bureau chief Matt Fuller, Mannion was heard shouting "Tell them! Tell them!"

Nicholas Wu, who is a congressional correspondent for Politico, tweeted that Mannion also had some words for members of the media present during the altercation.

"We need you. We need you to hold them accountable," he reportedly said. "Media, it's your country too ... Don't cover the distractions. Cover the actions that lead us towards authoritarianism, please."

The rescissions package that the House ultimately passed cuts foreign aid from the U.S. to underdeveloped nations by roughly $8 billion, in addition to effectively defunding NPR and PBS. Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-N.Y.) criticized the legislation on Wednesday, and voted against it on Thursday along with fellow Republicans Mark Amodei (R-Nev.), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) and Michael Turner (R-Ohio).
