Push Notification

Television host Stephanie Ruhle warned Wall Street and Main Street sources are fully reacting with “paralysis, anger and devastation” at what Trump is doing to the economy.

Recent numbers predict the U.S. economy will be shrinking for the first time since a major pandemic, in complete contrast to the last presidency. Now, Wall Street leaders and business owners who supported Trump in 2024 are horrified at their vote.

“You've got Wall Street sitting there with egg on their face, thinking they were happy to have Donald Trump because they were going to get deregulation and they were going to get tax cuts. They did not think the tariffs were coming, but had they listened to Trump, who has been talking about tariffs for the last 40 years—that is Wall Street's job, right? What is investors’ actual job? It's to analyze risk. The risk you took with Donald Trump is that he was going to impose the tariffs that he's promised for 40 years, and alas, that's what you got.”

Ruhle added that the investment community may be “scratching their heads because they all know that this administration is not being intellectually honest about how trade works,” but business owners and retirement account owners were not going to buy Trump’s attempt to blame the last administration for the economic contraction. The Trump White House and top administration officials are insisting Wednesday’s first quarter negative GDP numbers — showing a contracting economy for the first time in almost three years, since COVID — are actually good news, but also the fault of President Joe Biden.

“If the president wants to say to the American people it's going to be painful right now, but … we're going to turn things around and it's going to be great …, let him make it. But to say what's happening right now is the fault of President Biden? Give me a break.”

“Maybe that's going to work with a low information voter in a news desert, but for the majority of the American people who have to look at their 401s every day, who have to go to work and hopefully have a job and buy things in the store, they know he's not telling the truth,” Ruhle added. “and losing that credibility hurts all of us.”
