A prominent and controversial Trump-backed gubernatorial candidate has been rocked by "jaw-dropping" allegations, per a new report from The Daily Beast, adding more new wrinkles to his "dark past" than even he has been willing to admit.
A minister and self-described "Christian Warrior," Victor Marx is the Republican nominee for governor in Colorado who has made headlines nationwide for his outlandish claims about his past life and background. Among other things, he has claimed to have conducted "spiritual exorcisms" to free people from demonic possession, ordered a military airstrike as a civilian that killed 70 ISIS fighters and killed a man at age 7 after being forced to by his stepfather. Marx has so far refused to back down from these claims despite frequently being called out about their legitimacy.
On Tuesday, The Daily Beast published an exclusive report based on newly unearthed videos and posts purported to be from Marx, alleging that he "once laughed about slamming his wife into a door, recounted how he threw his toddler across the room and declared that God gave him a 'gift' for violence."
"In a 2021 video, for example, Marx, 61, recalled becoming 'infuriated' after his wife told him she no longer needed martial arts training because she was married to a Marine black belt," the report detailed.
“She goes, ‘I can handle myself’. I said, ‘You can?’ And I remember grabbing her, slamming her into our front door,” Marx said during an interview for the "Protector Nation" podcast. "I mean, it was a decent push. It’d be a bouncing push, right? She hit that, bent over and started crying, facing the opposite way."
In a 2020 episode of his own podcast unearthed by The Daily Beast, Marx also detailed an incident between his toddler son and his young daughter.
"I reacted so fast and so disproportionately that I snatched him up and threw him across the room,” Marx said, also adding, “he started crying. And I’ll never forget, I went, what was that? I mean, I couldn’t believe it.”
"He has also recounted punching an inmate at a juvenile facility until the man was bleeding, intimidating a mental-health provider by blocking the door and telling him he would never have time to call for help, and pulling a Marine Corps knife on a psychiatrist," the report detailed further. "And at a Turning Point USA Pastors Summit in San Diego, Marx also joked that he wasn’t good at some things but had a knack for conflict, as he recounted a story about hitting a man who had cheated on his wife and abused his daughter."
"I don’t know, I feel like God gave me a gift for violence, against a manifestation of evil," Marx said at the event.
Marx's office did respond to The Daily Beast's request for comment prior to publication.
The outlet noted that Colorado has not elected a GOP governor since 2002. While polling is not as extensive for this race as others, available data suggests that Democratic nominee and Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser is solidly tipped to defeat Marx in November.
