Jon Stewart: There's No Evidence NSA Spying Works -- Why Mindlessly Renew It?

On Sunday, the NSA briefly stopped the bulk collection of metadata after certain provisions of the Patriot Act temporary expired.

Freed from the fetters of NSA eavesdropping, Jon Stewart took advantage of his free speech rights, gleefully whipping out a landline and shouting, "Penis penis penis!"

Stewart also observed that despite the expiration of several Patriot Act provisions, America hasn't exploded into "chaotic, violence-based terror-ocracy."

That doesn't mean that a string of politicians and pundits aren't about to fearmonger about it, and none can rival John McCain in that department. "The middle east is on fire and we are losing everywhere," the Senator observes glumly.

But Stewart points out that not only is there no evidence that NSA metadata collection has thwarted imminent attacks, they've clearly also failed to prevent attacks such as the Fort Hood shooting and the Boston Marathon bombing. Shouldn't a program with such seemingly poor outcomes at least be up for debate?
