AlterNet is a source for diverse content, from the toughest analysis on the occupation of Iraq to fresh understanding of the Bush administration's harsh immigration polices, and much more. Editorially, we deal with the toughest, most gnarly issues facing us and the globe.

But politics comes in many forms, and so does repression, e.g., sexual expression and repression of drug use.

So for AlterNet, coverage of the conservatives' war on drug use and sexuality is important and directly related to the larger issues of health care, rights and liberties, and more. And we are constantly reminded that the personal is political, as personal expression and decisions are often haunted by intrusive morality police intent on imposing their values on private, non-harmful forms of expression.

Recently, we launched our Sex and Relationships Hub and new weekly free newsletter, and re-launched our Drug Reporter weekly newsletter.

We've noticed that our readers often flock to articles on topics from repressive drug war policies to the benefits and lifestyle issues involving drug use. Or just about anything involving sex. Not that these articles are for everyone; some readers just aren't interested. But our goal is to provide the best quality content and opinions on a wide range of topics.

To give you a sense of our range, here are a few examples of recent articles on drug policy and sexual issues that were popular with our readers:

Sex and Relationships

How Our Sexuality Is Being Restricted One Bad Law at a Time, by Dr. Marty Klein, AlterNet. Sexuality is considered a public health menace, and many people want tough laws to battle the epidemic.

"Bonk" Tells Us Some Amazing Things About Sex, by Don Hazen and Tana Ganeva, AlterNet. Author Mary Roach discusses why you're lucky that you're not a rhesus monkey and other interesting tidbits from scientific sex research.

DrugReporter

All Indicators Point to a Softening of America's Harsh Marijuana Laws, by Alexander Zaitchik, AlterNet. With key medical marijuana ballot initiatives likely to pass, and a more pot-friendly majority in Congress, there is room for optimism.

Breaking the Drug Taboo: Group of Traumatized Veterans Gets Ecstasy Treatment, by Scott Thill, AlterNet. An experimental study that treats PTSD veterans with the drug MDMA could make life after war a lot more livable.

i'm glad you guys are doing good business.
i'm glad you guys cover what you do.
but you're seriously beginning to sound like a big business, with such topical interests increasingly seeming more commodified.
patently so, to this very degree of lure here.
and so on. but it's okay.

the thing is, that which isn't written about.
'go where the silence is.' ask amy goodman.
the 'tin foil hat' branding has silenced discussion on too many topics. such branding is a marketing concern. it should be dispensed with in my view or at the very least itself written about. and so on.

how much longer do we have before net neutrality is a thing of the past? will commercial success of any site be different then and change relations? will marketing matter ever more then?

and so on.

Once we lop the head of the Beast that has highjacked our country for the last 40 yrs (and some areas nearly a Century- BS Banking Pirates of the 'Federal Reserve' and their head busting Side kick the IRS).We'll be glad to focus Our attention on these Topics.
but for Now they are rather Irrelevant. I would rather discuss Pharmacutical Inhumanities and Profiteering over when Pot will be legalized. I'd rather discuss the still ignored AIDS epidmeic or the Threat of shoving Woman into the Back alleys for Reproductive services then if Bob & Dave have the Chance to be as Miserable as the rest of US married Folks (LOL).
Only by handling the lack of Rights and Freedoms caused by the Tip of this Democracy will we ever make any gains on these smaller issues.
By exposing and prosecuting those Policy makers, Their Co conspirators in Industry and their heretical 'Moral' Fibers will we defeat these minor problems - by taking on the 'Big Picture' the points that make up the canvass will fall into place.

I think it would be because the repubs don't want Obama elected, so they are banking on the forgetfulness of the general public. So, they would be easing up on cannabis, going after meth labs, and say they aren't REALLY trying to keep cannabis requiring patients from obtaining their medicine. One of the Senators,
from my state, says he thinks that people shouldn't be kept from obtaining medical marijuana, but thinks it should remain a schedule one drug. Now what kind of sense does that make?

Marijuana laws are easing up? Where? In Kukulkans lavatory, it is going great guns? Oh, I know, in Lebanon it is getting better! This is the only country where police come in after you with drawn guns for anything, and super firing weapons if you are using drugs. Fuck this country in its repressive ass.

George Bush should get a visit from hippies carrying stainless steel dildos! And Michael Chertoff and his gang of murderous goons should be subject to a bath in whipped cream followed by a tongue lashing from six hundred hungry mutts. War on drugs! War on terror! Are you kidding me? Let an armed American John Q. Public loose and WE’LL take care of any wars on this or that imagined or manufactured horse manure.

I am so fucking tired of this political systems lies, obfuscations, and bullying of the public I could defecate on the white house lawn. If my ancestors or yours could see what these cops have been pulling on the citizenry there would have been another revolution by now.

Are my fellows so blind that they can’t see the Gestapo everywhere they look? What do you think these bastards are your guardians? They are here to subject you to laws that may or may not even be on any books! They are here to keep you DOWN only because that raises them up! In many cases, people who are not involved with the trafficking of drugs or terror tactics are being injured or killed on our streets by so called over zealous police.

These individuals are not over zealous, they are performing a job that we have hired them to do. Injure or kill anyone they damn well please if those individuals are between them and their appointed target, “collateral damage” it is called for Christ fucking sake! Mean while I and you and our elders and children pay the price for their indiscrimination.

Again Fuck this country and it’s militant police force I did not go to “War” so these ass holes could become better NAZI PRICKS people!
