Tonight Growth & Justice, an economic think tank, will hand out the awards for the worst political advertising in America. We'll bring you the winners of the non-partisan lampooning after they're announced. The UpTake's Mike McIntee gets a preview of some of the videos that are in the running from Growth & Justice President Dane Smith.

In our video preview we see examples of bad ads from the following categories: Improper Props, Guilt By Association, and Rated Sexxx. We also talk about ways to improve political advertising and how new media such as The UpTake may play a role in that.

There are many other categories and videos that will be seen tonight at the Pantages Theatre, 710 Hennepin Ave., Minneapolis, MN and start at 8pm. The headliner of the event is veteran journalist Aaron Brown, formerly of CNN and currently the Walter Cronkite Professor of Journalism at Arizona State University.

Waaaayyyyy too much of the host talking and smirking. Less of him and more of the problem (which is a big one and a serious one).

Best Political Ad Ever!

Here it is - some guy propounding on the three leading candidates, and pointing out that anyone who is "passionately supporting" any of these candidates, and not acknowledging any of these candidate's problems and contradictions, is either engaging in deceptive misinformation or is woefully misinformed.

http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=67d_1211311165

"If you are voting for any of these people, and you are stoked or excited about it, you are either misinformed or engaging in propaganda."

Sounds odd - but none of them plan to overturn NAFTA, none of them plan to remove the permanent military bases in Iraq, all are products of highly elitist backgrounds (Clinton's bio includes Rose Law Firm, Arkansas politics, WalMart relationships, New York Politics, Murdoch relationships, while Obama's include Harvard Grad School, Chicago politics, Exelon and coal relationships, and of course McCain has a long record, high points being his link to the 1980 banking collapse, the general Republican end of the military-industrial complex, basically the same type as Obama and Clinton, only more militaristic.

So, it's certainly a situation where political actions after the election will be just as important than before. If Obama wins, and everyone goes home expecting change on a silver platter, you'll be very sad when you lift the lid and see what's inside. I'll be voting for Obama - but I won't be expecting Rapture.

After all... remember this?

That was the longest most boring video I ever saw. The issue is real but the delivery put me to sleep.

What's the deal?
The last dozen or so videos that I have tried on the site come up with "Sorry no longer available".
Am I doing something wrong or is You Tube dumping them faster than I can get to them?

Indiana wants Hillary and so does Citizen Kate

The video portion of this article was boring but check out one of the other offerings, "Indiana wants Hillary and so does Citizen Kate".

I hope Citizen Kate runs for office someday.

I had a dream about Hillary Clinton last night, no one is more surprised than I, I'm not a fan. I am very worried about having to watch her concede defeat to Obama but that's a whole other issue...

In the dream she was a genuine human being, far from the picture of her that has been formulating in my media-influenced mind. In the dream she was sweet, funny and patient-- in short nothing whatsoever like what I conceive her to be.

The dream left me kind of feeling sorry for her, perhaps I was feeling sorry for myself that the first woman to run for president has turned out to (at least seem to) be such an ambitious cut-throat...

In other musings it seems as though her behavior is demanded of the "boy's club" mentality she must deal with and conform to in order to realize her lifelong dream of becoming the first female president of the United States of America, a goal not without merit and benefit to the women of the country and the world at large.

Sure she's a psychopath, they all are! Barack Obama has no business running for President of the U.S. and I imagine he once knew that but his backers (owners) are pumping him up with all the cash and support necessary to get their little freshman into office. And have their way with him.

John McCain? You think the N.Vietnamese might have slapped a little sense into him regarding torture and unwarranted invasions but sadly it was not the case. As a third generation Navy man with two famous Admiral forebears it's understandable that military might is the only life he can understand but are we to understand that perpetual war is a sane approach to existence in the 21st century?

I am so off-topic it hurts. This was a lame video about a doubly-blind lame expose' on bad political advertising. I applaud Alternet's posting of this kind of silly shit to keep us on our toes about what is truly important and I'm truly appreciative of the (relatively) new video format that allows people to watch other relevant videos... which often turn out to be more interesting than the original.

Certainly in this case. Citizen Kate for President! (Or at least NBC anchor...)
