"Explosive" new Hersh scoop: Bush funneling money to Al Qaeda-related groups [VIDEO]

So what could possibly be more "EXPLOSIVE" and "DEPRESSING" than the fact that the president is having a 24 hour attack plan drawn up for targets in Iran?

Why, funding anti-Shiite Sunnis linked to Al Qaeda without Congressional approval and without appropriate appropriation, of course.

Seymour Hersh's latest piece in the New Yorker reveals that the Pentagon is accelerating plans for an attack on Iran, that ex-Iran-Contra figure John Negroponte is moving to the State Dept because he's "too ethical" for the Pentagon and that the president is pushing the "absolute limit" of his authority in bypassing Congress and sowing the seeds of an even greater Middle East clusterfuck.

There are so many problems here, not the least of which is watching one of the most oafish, incompetent, and ignorant administrations in history attempt to reach something like equilibrium or control by playing with the various factions and sub-factions of Islam in the Middle East. It's like watching a spastic pre-teen wander into a ceramics studio. Except with the possibility of nuclear war.

In short, the Pentagon is attempting to battle Iran's extremists and Hezbollah (both Shiite) by funding the violent Sunni factions that oppose them. Hersh speculates that the money is coming from the pallet-loads of cash floating around Iraq and has already reached "three Sunni jihadist groups." He says, flatly, that the president is "supporting groups indirectly that are involved with the same people that did 9/11." We should be arresting these people, he says, not looking the other way.

NEW: Generals threaten to quit over war on Iran.

TAKE ACTION: MoveOn has a new petition demanding that President Bush get authorization from Congress before making any move on Iran. Sign ThinkProgress and John Amato.

is some pretty place where pure ideologies reign and we can perfect democracy for all and live in peace. Realise that the GOAL of the administration (at least of Cheney, BakerIII, Kissinger, and, most importantly Bush the Elder) is to forment chaos in the middle east for several reasons:
1) taking reform pressure off of our friends in Saudi Arabia, Qatar
2) keeping energy prices artificially high and also allow expansion into the former Soviet republics north of the area.
3) keep China out of those energy markets
4) gain large profits for hedgefunds and defence contractors (for weapons, logistics, infrastructure rebuilding, etc.)
5) allow the threat of 'terror' to curtail civil liberities and freedom in Europe and the USA so they can consolidate control/power
6) hopefully further the divide islam (and pan-arab nationalism) to that it doesn't risk the nice, friendly regimes and become a world power.
7) eliminate and render moot any investigations into the former Iraq regimes's financing, dealings, oil-for-food scandals, CIA-help, etc.
8) lastly the world is over-populated and so any attrition by war is highly recomended by the UN and the global elitists.

or does he - that there are some Islamist-extremist "enemies" out there who actually plotted and executed the 9/11 attacks; you know, the advanced-trained pilots and their savvy with planting thousands of cutter charges in all the right places. After all the evidence otherwise, to which I am sure he is privy, I'd like to hear what he really thinks about what the necon black-op cabal has been up to. Other than that, kudos to Sy.

Yes, there really is Al Queda - but their roots are in the CIA-supported Muslim Brotherhood, and the Reagan/Schultz -supported Afghani mujihadeen, and in the covert practices of the Bush-Baker-Bandar axis - Bandar arranged the Iran-Contra funding channels during the 80's, for example.

Yes, US foreign policy has enraged people to the point where they will kill themselves in symbolic terrorist attacks (9/11 was no 'Pearl Harbor'); the 15 Saudis probably had some degree of prior military training courtesy of the US. Bush was warned about the impending hijackings, but he decided to let them go forward - and insiders were even purchasing stock option bets against United and American Airlines (and what about the pre-911 gold movements?). They weren't expecting suicide hijackings, is all.

Cheney is the kind of guy who would let the planes crash into buildings rather than shooting them out of the sky. Just imagine if US fighter jets had blown four airliners out of the sky, when the hijackers were claiming to be returning to the airport. Cheney would simply think in PR terms - it wouldn't look good if US fighter jets had to kill US citizens due to his conniving and treasonous activities.

There were no bombs in the WTC, no bombs in building 7, no missles fired at the Pentagon, no vanishing flights over PA - just a corrupt, greedy and incompetent Administration who deliberately allowed terrorist hijackings to take place - and it worked. Bush's popularity went up to 90%, the Iraq invasion became possible, the Enron scandal was ignored, and so was the clearly stolen 2000 election.

Now, they're back to their old 80's era tricks, when they covertly supported Saddam Hussein with cluster bombs, military intelligence, and supplied him with chemical and biological weapons - all so he could go after Iran. Now they're trying to do the same thing with various Sunni groups in the place of Saddam. The stupidity and incompetence of these bloodthirsty clowns is hard to believe.

lack of intelligence oversight - I don't know how I feel about various elements of violent fundamentalist groups like Hezbollah versus former "al qaeda" or covert operations.
The lack of intelligence oversight is what's disturbing, Rumsfelid et al believed the russians had advanced weaponry they didn't - the cia told him he was wrong - the neocons
live/lived in a fantasy world. It's one thing to run covert operations - it's another to run them with on bad information.
Faulty perceptions still can lead to actions - and consequences, it's a damn shame to have a executive whois hubris (Rummie as shining example) prevents them from using intelligence information. Not saying the CIA etc is a great bunch but at least they have more information / expertise than the idiots in special planning offices in the pentagon.

I agree with this analysis. It's disturbing that our elected representatives keep talking in terms of 'failure' in Iraq. I think this was the aim of the administration, i.e. to create complete chaos in the region so when the president declared "mission accomplished" he was perhaps for the first time in his life, telling the truth.
Any peace in the world is a threat to the military industrial complex. Everyone in the administration represents those interests.

Isn't it obvious? Why ELSE would Sunni Saudi Arabia be funding Shia Islamic schools other than to churn out patsies and dupes for the Bush-Neocon War Pigs to rally the Empire to fight against? The Shia "terrorists" these school create are a direct threat to the Saudi monarchy! Must take one helluva lot of BushCo blackop Afghani heroin trade cash to make them take on THAT nasty job.

Why were all the 9-11 "hijackers" Saudis with NO APPARENT ISLAMIC RELIGIOUS CONVICTIONS (hanging out in bars with strippers, sex with whores, snorting lines of coke in strip club bathrooms and gambling in Las Vegas and on Abramoff's casino ship offshore in Florida)?

If those Saudi "terroists" really WERE on a secret Islamic terrorist mission, why were they so OBVIOUS about being noticed by everyone (except, apparently, the very people charged with protecting America from atttack)?

Do you think for a single moment that this is NEWS to anyone with half a brain?

Or that the rest of Nazi Amerika is going to buy it for a second?

When it's on FAUX NEWS, and they're pushing it 24/7 as the gospel truth like they're pushing the Iran is Satan story, THEN AND ONLY THEN will it have a chance to open Nazi Amerika's eyes.

Until then, it's pissing into a super-hurricane.

Bush:

"Ya see, the enemy here is constantly changin'. We gotta keep changin' tactics, keep changin' our, uh, focus. Ya see, we went in an' removed an evil dictater, but it turns out he was one of the good guys, see, the Sunnis. I mean, we took out an entire Sunni gov'mint and Saddam an' now the religious extremist Shias that came to power er far worse. So we gotta take them out, including Iran, see, an' put Sunni Democracy, yeah, that's right, that's it, Sunni Democracy like they have in Saudi Arabia, all over the Mideast, an' that's gonna take a sacrifice. But unless we do, see, them Shia are gonna nuke us all. See, Iran has nukular missiles that can go all the way to the moon and back. Ten times! So we gotta protect erselves.

So did we make a mistake goin' into Iraq and takin' out the Sunni gov'mint that was there? No, see because that was a, a, a Sunni dictatorship, not like a Sunni Democracy. Which is like what er al-lies the Saudis have, an' like what we have here in the US, an' what we have to sacrifice an' fight to put there... freedom! Democracy! Wal-mart! Against all them mullahs and stuff. Who bomb babies, no wait, that's US, I mean blow up babies an' women an' stuff.

Ya just gotta keep up with them evildoers, an' that's why the Amercun people put me here, an' that's my job, an' I'm gonna keep on doin' it no matter what anyone says er thinks or tells me diff'rent."

Hersh: Money For Al-Qaida?

I respect Sey Hersh tremendously and everything he has said todate has come true. I am outraged to hear that the Bush Administration knows that the Saudi Government and the Government of Prime Minister Siniora of Lebanon are funelling money to extremist groups and especially Al-Qaeda to kill Shiites. I mean for God's sake this is the same Al-Qaeda that attacked us at 9/11, the reason why we invaded Afghanistan, then invaded Iraq based on lies of WMDs and went further to tie Saddam to Al-Qaeda, and now we are funding this terrorist group!! This is more than shameful, more than despicable, more than amoral. I can't find the words to describe what I feel about this Bush Administration, VP Chaney, and the rest of these people leading our country. Where the hell is congress in taking any action here!! How do we dare try to fabricate lies, and provide disinformation to the public to depict Iran as the greatest terrorist nation, when they have done nothing to harm our country, Israel or in fact any other country in the world. While our so called Saudi Allies, and Prince Bandar and the rest of the corrupt Arab leaders have not only supported these extremist groups, breeed them and then exported them out to harm other nations. We are not going after Saudi Arabia, or Lebanon, or Egypt, or Kuwait, but we are going after Iran!! Did we get something wrong here. Which of these countries exported their terrorists groups to our country? Saudi Arabia. Who are we now supporting? Saudi Arabia! Who are we in camp with, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, and the extremists groups including Al-Qaeda!! As American people we should be outraged, we should request not only an investigation if our Congress has a bit of guts to stand up and fight for the truth, but we should ask for the empeachment of this President and his entire cabinet.

Are we yet at the point where we can impeach and imprison these demonic bastards? What is it going to take--do we need to uncover a video of Bush going down on Osama Bin Laden with Cheney pleasuring himself in the background?

Mind you, I am being purely rhetorical. I am not so naive as to fail to realize that the Democrats are on the other side of the same bed as these scumbags.

To put it in context, Nixon has his secretly drug-financed dirty tricks guys, bypassing Congress. Reagan and Ollie North had their independently financed slimeys (things go better with coke) for when the contras lost Congressional financing, so what's the surprised that the W Bushies might pay for their creeps with some of the missing Iraq War billions? Congress won't be able to cut that source off, so the boys can still play away.

Call it progress: for once the W's have applied some lessons from history.

What did al Qaeda have to do with 9-11?

Isn't it past the time to stop scapegoating Osama (Usama) bin Laden and al-Qaeda when talking about the attacks of September 11, 2001.

Why might someone think he caused 9-11? Because the same liars that brought you Iraq, said so? Was any evidence produced? Was there ever a real investigation of the attacks of 9-11? No. Philip Zelikow, who worked for the White House, controlled the 9-11 Whitewash Commission.

Don't the victims and their families deserve a proper investigation? Get the Federal cover up out of the picture, and let NYPD and the NYFD be heard. Investigate murder.

Osama bin Laden never claimed he was behind 9-11. American media ran a poorly forged flix of a heavyset black man writing with his right hand, Osama is left handed and thin. On September 16 2001 Osama bin Laden did make a public comment that he did not support the attack of so many innocent lives. Most of the world had access to that, while American networks failed to disclose it.

Lets not scapegoat bin Laden in an irresponsible manner. Charge him for the embassy bombings and the USS Cole, but there is no evidence for the 9-11 attacks.

It is past the time to impeach the real terrorists, and begin seizing their ill gotten gains.
