According to the Wall St. Journal's blog, you can add active duty troops and officers to the ranks of those who oppose Bush's CYA strategy of pawning his spilled milk onto the next president:

A group of more than 50 active-duty military officers will deliver a petition to Congress on Tuesday signed by about 1,000 troops calling for an end to the U.S. occupation of Iraq. "Any troop increase over here will just produce more sitting ducks, more targets," said Sergeant Ronn Cantu, who is serving in Iraq.

Let's see. That makes American Generals, the American public, the Iraqi government, and now troops opposed to the escalation.

It's lonely at the top. Top of what? I won't speculate...

Bush's boots on the ground are in the best position to know and when they are worn by everyone from a buck private to the highest ranking officers in Iraq their warnings have to be taken seriously.
This is a stupid irresponsible adventure and must be ended.

Critics of these practical officers will say that they're disloyal to their Commander in Chief, traitors , destroying the armed forces & have destroyed their careers. Others will say that these officers will prevent fraggings, mutiny, desertions, preserve the armed forces to rebuild after Iraq, & are loyal to their country by placing their careers at risk by questioning the decisions of a demented administration bent upon recklesssly using troops as cannon fodder in lost & pointless war.
These officers have learned the lessons of Viet Nam & bear them in mind. W & his meglomanic crew are bent upon turning Iraq into another Viet Nam & turning the USA into a dictatorship with an imperial president. W & crew are bent upon following the path of LBJ & Nixon to disgrace & defeat.

Ducks versus the chicken-hawks

Being ducks we do not understand how chicken-hawks think. Vietnam was good for selected people. Dick and George had more important things to do, than to defend their beloved country as they are asking thousands to do In Iraq. They were busy securing their futures with deferments while 55,000 not so motivated grunts were busy giving their lives to follow the rules. Now we have a few thousand who want to protest as ducks rarely do.They understand that Dick likes sitting ducks, preferably with clipped wings. Now George likes to blow up frogs. Chicken-hawks make sure that no one is shooting at them. Hell No!! They didn't go. Chicken-hawks like to hide in the dark while others protect their interests and make them richer men.

While I admire their courage greatly, I fear for these brave officers and men

Given the vicious nature of the monster who would be president, I'm sure those who signed this announcement are Marked Men... Their careers are likely over as well as any hope of further employment for any governmental agency, not that any of them might even take such a job were it ever offered. I just cannot imagine the monster Not extracting revenge on them in some form or fashion. I wish these brave officers and men Much Luck!

THE OPPOSITION GROWS

Boy this idea must be worse than I thought it was. I hope the opposition continues to grow. Everyone seems to think that Congress is the answer. I'm not so sure. Contact your people in Washington and let them know you oppose escalation. There has to be a way. This is officially Viet Nam all over again. Thanks, ANNA
