Arab/Muslim world doesn't 'hate our way of life'... [Poll]

It's Palestine, Iraq and Iran, stupid.

Just as I'm reading about the growing unpopularity of fin de siƩcle Czarist Russia, the latest Zogby Poll (HT: Abu Aardvark) yields this unsurprising result: The US is very very very unpopular in the Arab/Muslim world -- and it's getting worse:

Why? Duh:

Zogby himself, commented: "Baker and Hamilton had it right, U.S. policy regarding the Middle East is hurting our ability to lead a coalition in Iraq. Addressing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict would provide us with much needed credibility from the Arab world."

Read the whole report HERE (pdf).

Do they still hate us for our freedoms?

Wow. I'd like to have this stencilled on a dog turd and rub it in Bush's face. "No, doofus, they don't hate us for our freedoms. They hate us for what we're doing in their neighbourhood."

Mind you, I'd soon run out of dog turds, given the number of faces that need a rub. Starting with John Bloody Winston Bloody Howard, the weaselly miserable divisive coward.

I noticed that the question only asked about "Promotion of Democracy". Is there any comprehension of the fact that many people would give a hollow laugh at the idea that the US is, actually, honestly, really, trying to promote democracy?

This question actually represents a bit of naughty behaviour, statistically speaking. Because the questioner means one thing by it, but the respondents may take it to mean any number of things (hinted at above), which makes the results less than valid. There have been a number of actions the US has taken under the umbrella claim of 'promoting democracy': not all of these have had the desired effect, and not all of them were actually to promote democracy.

How about a question phrased thus: "How do you regard the US funding of anti-government groups in ex-USSR countries as a means of promoting democracy? How do you regard the overthrow of the Iraqi government as a means of 'promoting democracy'? How about the cutting off of funds to the Palestinian government when democracy brought results that the US and Israel didn't like? How about the demonisation of Hezbollah? How about demonising the elected government of Iran? Which of these was intended to promote democracy? Which of these actually promoted democracy?"

I'm sure that if the issue were to be split into its component parts, results would be clearer.

that the Arabs and Muslims are so angry at the USA. We've only been around for a scant period of time and yet they have been enslaving Africans, beating women, invading (or trying to invade Europe), killing each other in sectarian conflict, and causing all kinds of violence for many centuries. Maybe its not the USA but their culture?
And the only reason we are hearing about the violence (and the only reason their violence is effecting us) is because we are meddling in a backwards part of the world in which we have no business? Perhaps?

Plenty of the religious nuts over there DO hate our freedoms. Problem is, they're not all over there. As a journalist, I met Americans all the time who hate our freedoms, too.

They hate us for over six decades of undermining their centuries old way of life, introducing our crime and addictions, over turning their governments in favor of puppet regimes, eliminating their resources and starving their children.
